In the summer of 2007 I worked out at Chelsea Piers Bluestreak Program. I had been having trouble and weakness in my right hip area and glutus medias. I was having trouble with my stride and didn't feel as strong on the ice. Working with Shane Palahicky on the skating treadmill and the pro performance hip machine I was able to regain the strength in me leg and to better my stride and balance on the ice. Coming in to my senior year I feel better then I have in a number of years and that directly has to do with training at the bluestreak program.

Kelly Sullivan

UMass Lowell Men's Hockey

“I came in expecting the treadmill to be like a bag skate on the ice but was pleasantly surprised. The main thing I wanted to get out of this was conditioning and to make my stride better (longer, stronger, faster and just better technique overall). By watching myself in the mirror and having one-on-one coaching this goal was obtained. I have never been a pretty skater but I can tell my feet and stride have made big improvements. All the coaches were very positive, amiable and pushed me hard every session. I plan on coming back next year too because it was a very positive experience.”

Chris Potts

Union College Men’s Hockey

“Since the start of my workouts on the skating treadmill, my cardio and endurance levels have improved dramatically. I am a player who dreads cardio day at the gym but since skating on the mill I now look forward to Mondays and Wednesdays (cardio days). I feel it has improved my shift length and my ability to perform at a high intensity all shift. The positive reinforcement from Shane and Kevin has been beneficial as well.”

“Dr. Metzl suggested I train at Chelsea Piers BlueStreak this summer in order to prevent injuries going into the fall cross country season. I’ve had a lot of stress fractures, so by training at BlueStreak, he thought I’d be able to stay in shape better and avoid a pre-season injury. The training program was hard but fun, and it really helped me stay in shape over the summer.”

Nina Daniels

Duke University
Program: Acceleration

“You can’t workout like this by yourself! While it’s tough skating uphill, the treadmill definitely lengthens your stride, and you can see the difference over the course of the program. Playing college hockey and living in NYC for the summer, Chelsea Piers BlueStreak was the obvious choice for a place to workout and stay in shape for the upcoming season. I’ll definitely be back next summer.”
