Sky Rink coaches threw Darlene Parent, the longest-running skating coach at Sky Rink, a party for her 75th birthday last week. Darlene, a mentor to nearly all the coaches at the rink, wears many hats at Sky Rink:  she is the competition director for the rink's annual Ice Skating Institute competition, runs the Skating Club of New York test sessions every month and also teaches many Sky Rink skaters, her specialty being moves-in-the-field. An icon in the New York City figure skating community, Darlene is also known for skating in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular as well as inventing and performing nationally in unique toe-skates -- ballet pointe toe shoes that are attached to figure skating blades.  During her impressive skating career, Darlene skated in Dick Button's Ice Travaganza at the 1964 World Fair in Queens and was featured on "You Asked For It" on ABC TV in 1959, in addition to having her own production company Darlene Parent Productions which produced skating shows on synthetic ice for events.  Happy Birthday Darlene!
