Balance and Posture are Key

By Dale Gray, Head Teaching Professional

When you make a correct turn, it should feel as though you are turning inside a barrel. In other words, you should turn only inside the space in which you are standing. This allows a tighter and more efficient turn, leading to better swing shape and, ultimately, better results.

To turn efficiently and consistently, you must maintain your posture and turn on your axis while keeping your eyes level to the ground.

Try this drill to achieve the correct body motion:

  1. Stand in front of a mirror with your arms crossed over your chest.
  2. Practice turning your shoulders. As you stay centered, your left shoulder should turn behind the ball with your eyes level to the ground.
  3. Next, practice turning through the ball so that your shoulders and hips are facing the target and you remain in a balanced finish position.

Best of luck with your game.
