On September 12, 2006, The Golf Club celebrated
its new status as a fully-operational teaching
facility for The First Tee, now providing
space, golf instructors and teachers to
run the Life Skills program. The event featured
a demonstration and mini-clinic with LPGA
star, Paula Creamer and over 45 student
golfers from The First Tee program.
The First Tee is an initiative of the
World Golf Foundation designed to impact
the lives of young people by providing learning
facilities and educational programs that
promote character-development and life-enhancing
values through the game of golf. The true
value of this program is based on golf's
unique ability to instill and nurture essential
values, such as honesty, integrity, sportsmanship,
and a solid work ethic in young people who
are introduced to the game.
The First Tee of Metropolitan New York,
Inc. is a joint venture between the MGA
Foundation, Metropolitan Section PGA and
an investor group lead by the late Lewis
Rudin of Rudin Management Company of New
York City. The First Tee of Metropolitan
New York at Mosholu Golf Course & Driving
Range is the first of hopefully many junior
training facilities schedule for the Metropolitan
area. Since taking over the license to operate
the Mosholu Golf Course & Driving Range
back in September 2001, it has been our
goal to make upgrades to the golf course,
range and other facilities so we can provide
the best possible product and service to
the public golfer and a home for our junior
initiative. We have been successful in all
of these areas to date. Several thousand
youngsters have participated in programs
at Mosholu already and further growth is
anticipated.
The future looks bright for expansion
of The First Tee. The openings of The First
Tee of Nassau County (LI), Fairfield County
(Conn), and Chelsea Piers (Manhattan) have
successfully taken place and in the process
of opening is a facility in Nassau County
(NJ). These additional facilities allow
us to serve an even larger number of junior
golfers throughout the Metropolitan New
York area.
