Chelsea Piers HOSTS Corporate Golf Challenge
Presented by Continental Airlines

New York Tees It Up At The Piers

Corporate golf enthusiasts are lining up to "take a swing" at their competition during the inaugural Chelsea Piers Corporate Golf Challenge presented by Continental Airlines. The Corporate Golf Challenge, which kicks off with a practice round and pre-event party on May 26, 1998 is divided into two parts: a 3-round Skills Competition at the Golf Club's state-of-the-art driving range (June 2, June 9, and June 16) and an 18-Hole Championship Round at Crystal Springs Golf Course at the Great Gorge Golf Reserve in Sussex County, NJ on June 19, 1998.

Teams compete for bragging rights as well as over $10,000 in prizes, including round-trip Continental Airlines tickets, a complimentary golf event for 50 people at the Golf Club, Top-Flite equipment and more. The fee is $1,200 per team and includes range fees, greens fees, food, prizes and much more.

The Golf Challenge is destined to become New York's premier golf event and will pit corporations against one another in a unique and challenging format which ultimately will decide New York's golf champion.

Continental Airlines' participation in the Chelsea Piers Corporate Golf Challenge is part of its recently signed year-long sponsorship of the Golf Club at Chelsea Piers. As the official and exclusive airline of the Golf Club, Manhattan's only year-round driving range, Continental has placed its insignia throughout the club and will, throughout the year, participate in special events and promotions such as the Corporate Golf Challenge.

"Many of our business customers work out at Chelsea Piers when they're in Manhattan, and golf is a hot sport for leisure travelers," said Richard Metzner, Continental's Vice President-Marketing Programs. "As the largest carrier in the New York City market, we're proud to partner with this first-class facility and particularly proud to present to our customers the opportunity to compete in such a unique and exciting golf event."

"All of us at Chelsea Piers are extremely proud to welcome Continental Airlines to our growing family of corporate sponsors," said Tom A. Bernstein, President of Chelsea Piers. "This is an ideal partnership between the New York area's premier airline and our world-class sports facility. Look for more great things to develop between our two cutting-edge businesses."

The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers features 52 weather-protected and heated driving stalls on four levels; a 1,000-sq.-ft. practice putting green; a fully-automated ball transport system; a 200-yard, artificial-turf fairway; custom-designed target greens, and a shingled clubhouse containing the Reebok Golf Pro Shop, men's and women's locker rooms, bag storage, meeting rooms, and the Jim McLean Golf Academy with a 2,000-sq.-ft. indoor learning center.

In addition to the Golf Club at Chelsea Piers, Continental heavily supports New York City-area sports-related organizations. It serves as the Official Airline of the New York City Marathon, the New York Roadrunners Club, the New York Jets, the New Jersey Devils, the New Jersey Nets, the New Jersey Special Olympics, and, of course, the Continental Airlines Arena at the Meadowlands.

The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers is located on Pier 59, 23rd Street and the Hudson River. For information about the Chelsea Piers Corporate Challenge presented by Continental Airlines, please call 212.336.6400
