TO DEFEND ITS WORLD TITLE AT GOODWILL GAMES

Conference Scheduled for Friday, July 17
at Sports Center at Chelsea Piers
The Puerto Rico National Basketball Team,
Gold Medal winner in the 1994 Goodwill Games in Russia,
has arrived in New York City to defend its world title
in this year's Games. Led by veteran players Jose "Piculin"
Ortiz, Eddie Casiano, James Carter and Jerome Mincy,
the team will tip off against the U.S. team on Sunday,
July 19, 1998 at 1:45 PM at Madison Square Garden. Games
against Brazil and China follow on Monday and Tuesday
evenings at 7:00 PM.
According
to Roland W. Betts, Chairman of Chelsea Piers Management,
"Construction is on schedule. We are very proud of this
beautiful new event space, opening onto the Hudson River.
We feel confident that PIER SIXTY will quickly
become a New York City favorite, not only because of
its spectacular views, but also because of the food,
services and amenities."
The
team will hold a press conference on Friday, July 17,
1998 at Noon at the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers.
