ISRAELI
ICE HOCKEY TEAM TO FACE NYC
CYCLONES AT SKY RINK AT CHELSEA PIERS
On
Sunday, January 10, 1999 at 7:00 PM, the Junior National
Team of Israel will face-off against the New York City
Cyclones Midget Team in an exhibition ice hockey game
at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers.
The
Israeli team is comprised of 15 players all under 18
years of age, and is coached by Boris Mindel, former
Red Army player, and Simeon Jacubovitch, who previously
coached the Soviet Wings. Based at Canada Centre in
Metulla, Israel (site of the only full-sized rink in
the country), the team is presently on tour and playing
exhibition games in preparation for the European Championships,
scheduled for the end of February in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The team's visit is sponsored by a grant from Maccabi
USA.
The
team will also be playing the Harlem Rangers at Riverbank
State Park on Monday, January 11, 1999 at 6:00 PM, then
travel to Montreal for additional games.
The
New York City Cyclones Midget Team is one component
of the Cyclones Ice Hockey Club which is in residence
at Chelsea Piers. There are a total of seven Cyclones
teams of all ages and abilities practicing and playing
throughout the year at Sky Rink.
Tickets
will be on sale at the door the evening of the game.
Prices are $25.00 for Preferred Seating, $15.00 for
General Admission and $10.00 for students (with ID).
All proceeds go to support Israeli ice hockey, tour
expenses and equipment.
