GLOBAL ICE presents ICE THEATRE OF NEW YORK
MAY 20-22 AT SKY RINK at CHELSEA PIERS

GLOBAL ICE is proud to present the 1999 Home Show of Ice Theatre of New York, the country's finest artistic ice skating ensemble. The performances are Thursday, May 20, Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22, 1999, each evening at 7:00 PM, at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers.

Ice Theatre of New York, in residence at Sky Rink, will continue its tradition of presenting bold, contemporary, modern dance-influenced choreography on ice at this 15th Anniversary celebration. This year Ice Theatre will premiere new works by dance choreographers Peter di Falco and JoAnna Mendl Shaw, as well as pieces by skating choreographers Doug Webster and Moira North. Guest artists appearing in the program include Chika Maruta and three-time Olympian David Liu.

Peter di Falco, renowned for his tango and ballroom choreography, has brought his artistry to the ice for the dramatic Tango Images, and Joanna Mendl Shaw, widely known for her modern dance choreography, returns this year with a new work entitled Heart. Doug Webster's Transitions is a moving tribute to those the skating community has lost to AIDS and Moira North's Sketches, set to original music by Cam Millar, is based on the life and art of Auguste Rodin. Both Shaw's new dance and Millar's new music were made possible, in part, with commissioning funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Founded in 1984, Ice Theatre of New York is dedicated to developing ice skating as a theatrical art form through performances and educational programs.

GLOBAL ICE, produced by Jack W. Batman, is a continuing series of figure skating exhibitions, presented at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers, Pier 61, 23rd Street & the Hudson River. All tickets are $15.00 ($12 for groups of 10 or more) and are available at the Sky Rink box-office (212.336.6100). For more information, please call 212.336.6881, or the Ice Theatre office at 212. 929.5811.
