NYC SINGS THE BLUES AT CHELSEA PIERS ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH

On Saturday, September 25, 1999, from 4:00 PM until 1:00 AM, Chelsea Piers is proud to present the first annual RiverBlues Festival, with two stages featuring continuous music from the top blues bands of New York City. The event is sponsored by Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

Scheduled to appear on the bill are Chris Carter, The Dana Fuchs Band, Kid Java, Little Buster and the Soul Brothers, Mojo Daddy, Christine Santelli, Seņor Lucky, Taino and special guest star, "The Prince of Harlem," the legendary Lonnie Youngblood.

Youngblood has been playing his own brand of soulful Rhythm and Blues since his teenage years in the late 1950's. Within a short time he was leading the bands of R&B legends Baby Washington, Faye Atomic Adams and Buster Brown, and cutting hit records. Rock historians credit him with discovering Jimi Hendrix, and starting Jimi on his recording career. A single that they cut together, "Go, Go, Shoes" was Jimi's first record. Lonnie Youngblood has fans all over the world, and his tours have included gigs with Joe Tex, James Brown, Sam and Dave, King Curtis, Jackie Wilson, and his good friend Ben E. King.

The RiverBlues Festival will be held at the Roller Rinks at Chelsea Piers, 23rd Street and the Hudson River, New York City. It will feature beergarden seating, with lots of great Samuel Adams beer and American and Cajun food available for purchase, plus some special surprises and great door prizes.

Admission is only $5 per person, and kids under 16 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. A portion of the proceeds will benefit VH1 Save the Music, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education in America's public schools by restoring and supporting music programs in cities around the country, and by raising public awareness about the importance of music participation for our Nation's youth.
