MIDDLE
ATLANTIC FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIPS
TO BE HELD AT SKY RINK AT CHELSEA PIERS
The
74th Annual Middle Atlantic Figure Skating Championships
will be held Thursday, September 23 through Sunday,
September 26, 1998 at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers.
The
competition, hosted by The Skating Club of New York,
began in 1920, and is the oldest non-qualifying competition
in the United States. Over 740 skaters, ages 6 to adult,
are registered to participate. The Middle Atlantic Figure
Skating Championships is a highly prestigious event
and consistently attracts superior skaters and their
coaches. Many U.S. and World Champions have skated in
a Middle Atlantic competition at some point in their
careers. These include Olympians Dick Button, Carol
Heiss, Dorothy Hamill, Rocky Marval and Calla Urbanski,
and, most recently, Tara Lipinski, the 16-year-old 1998
Olympic Gold Medal Champion. In 1997, Sarah Hughes won
the Junior Ladies Gold Medal at Mids, and went on to
become the 1998 U.S. Junior Ladies National Champion.
Projected
attendance is 5,000. Admission - Daily: $5 adult/$2
child; 4-Day: $10 adult/$5 child.
