PIERS EVENTS CALENDAR 2000
April 2000: Fourth Annual History Month at Chelsea Piers
Throughout
April, as part of our ongoing commitment to community
service, we are welcoming students from public, private
and parochial schools, grades 3-8, to a free waterfront
history lesson. This interactive class, called "These
Thirty Acres," tells the story of the historic Chelsea
Piers (and the shoreline of Chelsea they occupy) following
a timeline from 1620 until the present. Over 2,500 students
and their teachers have already participated in this
program. Special classes for the general public are
offered on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15,

May 5, 2000: Third Annual Skate Into Spring
The
Sky Rink Youth Scholarship Fund presents its annual
benefit, Skate Into Spring, featuring exhibition
hockey with New York Rangers alumni vs. New York Islanders
alumni, an ice show starring world-class figure skaters,
food, dancing, live music, open skating, and The Great

May 13, 2000: Third Annual King of the Street 2000
Designed
to give amateur skaters an opportunity to challenge
themselves in an aggressive skating competition, King
of the Street 2000 is the first of a series
of qualifying events. Other rounds of competition are
scheduled for June 10, July 15 and August 19. (Winners
from each competition will compete at Chelsea Piers
in King of the Street 2000 Finals on September
16, 2000.) The event begins at 11:00 AM at the Skate
Park at Chelsea Piers, Pier 62, 23rd Street & the

May 20, 2000: Good Food at Chelsea Piers
Join
us as we celebrate the great tastes of Chelsea and the
surrounding neighborhoods. Over 30 extraordinary restaurants
bring the best they have to offer to Chelsea Piers.
(Small charge for tasting tickets.) The event will also
feature special guest chefs, cookbooks galore and a
lush and bountiful greenmarket where visitors may purchase
and carry away some of New York's most perfect local

Hundreds
of amateur figure skaters from all over the world test
their skills in one of Sky Rink's annual figure skating

stages will feature continuous music from the top Latin
bands of the tri-state area. Beergarden seating, great

July 22, 2000: Fourth Annual Kids' Performing
Arts Day
The
family event of the summer, which last year attracted
over 3,500 eager kids and their families. It's a day
filled with performances, workshops and clinics in music,
theatre and dance, plus storytellers, face painters
and lots of other surprises. Five stages showcase continuous
entertainment with special guests from Broadway, Music
and Dance. An added attraction will be performances
by professional figure skaters on our outdoor artificial

of this agressive skating competition come to Chelsea

River. The King of the Street 2000 will be crowned

September 21-24, 2000: 75th Annual Mid-Atlantic
Figure Skating Championships
More
than 750 skaters compete for prizes in this oldest,
non-qualifying competition in the United States. This
highly-prestigious event consistently attracts superior
skaters and their coaches. Presented by the Skating

October 28, 2000: Fifth Annual Chelsea Piers
Halloween Carnival
The
Best Halloween Party in Town! This fabulous fun-filled
event for kids of all ages features over four dozen
sports-related and traditional carnival games, a haunted
ship, a toddler gymnastics arena, miniature golf, a
kids' costume parade, major entertainment plus fabulous
prizes and giveaways for all. Last year's event attracted

December 8, 2000: Fourth Annual Holiday on the
Hudson

internationally-acclaimed vocalist Mairead, and
our special guest stars World and Olympic Ice Dance
Champions Anjelika Krylova & Oleg Ovsiannikov,
and World and European Pairs Champions, Marina Eltsova

December 9-10, 2000: Fifth Edition The Holiday Gymnastics
Gala
On
Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, 2000, both evenings
at 7:00 PM, the Field House at Chelsea Piers will present
its highly-anticipated annual event, The Holiday
Gymnastics Gala. The Gala features competitive and
professional athletes and entertainers from across the
country. The Holiday Gymnastics Gala is an annual
event, born in 1997, celebrating the Field House at
Chelsea Piers Adult Gymnastics Program, the largest
in the United States. The show is conceived, produced
and directed by Link Blake. Tickets are $10 and
