CHELSEA PIERS & NEW YORK-PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL PRESENT
FREE HEALTH & WELLNESS FAIR SEPTEMBER 23

Just how healthy are you? Come find out on September 23, 2000 from Noon until 4:00pm at the first annual Chelsea Piers Health & Wellness Fair on Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers, 23rd Street and the Hudson River. This FREE event, designed to promote healthy living, is sponsored by the New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Sports Medicine Center at Chelsea Piers. The Chelsea Piers Health & Wellness Fair offers free information and services from healthcare professionals who will provide numerous medical tests and screenings, free mammograms, and the "Kids' Health Olympics," where children of any age can learn about health and nutrition while testing their athletic ability.

The Chelsea Piers Health & Wellness Fair will offer a host of free preventative and precautionary medical services including cholesterol, diabetes and hypertension testing; glaucoma, skin cancer and injury screening; cardiovascular and diabetes risk factor identification; body fat analysis; sports medicine and physical therapy; nutrition; the mammography van; pain management; the burn center; emergency services; pharmacology and organ donations. Free mammograms will be offered to uninsured women over 40. Pre-registration is required for this service. Please call 1.800.564.6868 to schedule a time.

This is an interactive and informative event for the entire family, so bring your kids along with you! A special attraction of the Chelsea Piers Health & Wellness Fair is the "Kids' Health Olympics" where children can test their athletic abilities while seeing how much they know about nutrition and sports trivia. In order to win medals and some fabulous prizes, children of any age will participate in supervised activities that test their skills at basketball, calisthenics, golf and Olympic trivia, nutrition/body health and general sports knowledge--an interactive, informative and fun way for children to challenge themselves and their bodies. While children participate in the "Kids' Health Olympics," adults may test their flexibility and strength by taking a yoga class offered by the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers. A certified yoga instructor will offer a demonstration and conduct classes that are free and open to the public at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.

Performing live at the event will be the extremely popular local band, Total Remix. Food and beverages are available for purchase. For more information about the Chelsea Piers Health & Wellness Fair, please call 212.336.6881.
