ICE
THEATRE OF NEW YORK CELEBRATES 16TH YEAR WITH
PERFORMANCES AT SKY RINK AT CHELSEA PIERS
Sky
Rink at Chelsea Piers is the location for the annual
Autumn Gala and home season for Ice Theatre of
New York. The Gala, scheduled for Tuesday, October
3, 2000, at 7:00pm, is a benefit and performance honoring
international competitors and World and Olympic coaches
Peter and Sonya Dunfield. Additional performances are
scheduled for October 4 and 5, 2000, all at Sky Rink.
This marks the 16th Anniversary season of Ice
Theatre of New York.
In residence at Chelsea Piers since 1995, Ice
Theatre of New York is the nation's first not-for-profit
ice dancing ensemble to be awarded grants by The National
Endowment for the Arts and The New York State Council
on the Arts. Since its founding in 1984 by ice dance
gold medalist Moira North, Ice Theatre of New
York has offered its audiences ice dances which
illuminate the rich variety of moods, styles and forms
that make a stage of frozen water.
The October 3 performance will feature the Ice
Theatre of New York Ensemble performing new
works and selections from their extensive repertory,
plus special guest artists World and U.S. Gold Medalists
Yuca Sato and Jason Dungjen, three-time Olympian David
Liu and Swiss National Champion Lucinda Ruh, the world's
fastest spinner (270 revolutions per minute). Also performing
at the Gala will be former World and Olympic champion
Donald Jackson, a Canadian and the first skater ever
to land a triple Lutz. The October 4 and 5 performances
will feature United States Pairs Champions Kyoko Ina
and Jon Zimmerman, in addition to Lucinda Ruh and David
Liu.
Tickets
for all performances are $20 in advance by phone at
212.929.5811. Credit cards are accepted. Special group
rates are available. Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers is located
at Pier 61, 23rd Street and the Hudson River, New York
City.
