SKY RINK AT CHELSEA PIERS ANNOUNCES ARRIVAL
OF WORLD-CLASS FIGURE SKATING COACH

Chelsea Piers is pleased to welcome Hongyun Liu to the coaching staff at Sky Rink. Bringing with him both Chinese national competition experience and international Olympic coaching success, Hongyun Liu raises the level of excellence in coaching wherever he goes.

Mr. Liu began his career as a professional ice skating coach in 1975 after competing as a professional skater in the Chinese national championships in 1970, 1972, 1974 and 1976. His credentials are outstanding. He has coached the Chinese Olympic Team and such world famous professional ice skaters as Sky Rink's own Lucinda Ruh (bronze medalist at the World Professional Championships, touring with Stars on Ice), Lu Chen (former World Champion and two time Olympic bronze medalist) and Zhengxin Guo (World Championship competitor). For ten years, from 1975 to 1985 he was the Chinese National Team Coach, and from 1985 to 2000 he was the Chinese Olympic Team Coach. During his 26 years of coaching, Hongyun Liu has handled many successes. He has coached Chinese National Champions, World Championship competitors and Olympic Medalists.

Hongyun Liu has relocated his family to New York City and joined the coaching staff at Sky Rink. We look forward to welcoming Olympic hopefuls seeking Mr. Liu's expertise as they prepare for the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
