THE
SPORTS CENTER AT CHELSEA PIERS
ANNOUNCES NEW FAMILY DAY ACTIVITIES
Having
a child doesn't mean that you've got to give up your
gym membership! The Sports Center at Chelsea Piers
recognizes how precious time is, and how little of
it is available to parents who work out. In response
to a growing market of baby boomers with children,
Chelsea Piers has developed new family programming
options to bring families together around sporting
activities: fathers can swim with their sons, mothers
can rock climb with their daughters, or children
can take classes as parents work out on their own.
On Family Days, Sundays of each week from 9am - 2pm,
parents may either work out with their children or
work out while their children play. The recently
opened Kids' Space, equipped with babysitters, toys,
games and an indoor matted playground, is for children
ages 18 months to 8 years.
On
Family Day, in addition to such regularly scheduled
family programming as Hoops 4 Kids, Kidswim Clinic,
and funARTS, the Sports Center has added three new
children's classes including Poekoelan Martial Arts
for Kids, a martial art from Indonesia which allows
children to imitate the playful movements of the
monkey, tiger, snake and crane. On top of learning
this unique martial arts style, children learn practical
self-defense awareness in a non-competitive manner.
Little Dippers I (toddlers 18 - 24 months) & II
(toddlers 24 - 36 months) provide water babies the
opportunity to learn beginner swimming skills - water
adjustment, water entry, bubble blowing, front kick,
and arm movement. Each child progresses at his or
her own pace to build confidence in and around the
water, while time in the pool together provides a
fun parent/child activity.
