ANNUAL "HEROES IN UNIFORMS" CHARITY CELEBRITY
HOCKEY TOURNAMENT & GALA MARCH 22 AND 23 AT
CHELSEA PIERS
Honoring Police, Firefighters, Port Authority Police,
Transit Police and EMS Heroes lost on September 11th
Heroes in Uniforms is charity event which will feature
the FDNY/NYPD/Port Authority Police Department hockey
teams competing against celebrities and NHL alumni of
the NY Rangers, NY Islanders, and NJ Devils, with proceeds
going to charity.
This two-day event will begin with a gala dinner on
Friday, March 22, 2002 at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers,
featuring hockey All-Stars and celebrities. Alan Thicke
will emcee the evening, which includes silent and live
auctions, entertainment by Michael Andrew (recent single "Destination
Moon"), and a chance to mix and mingle with celebrities
and New York's hockey legends. Ticket donations range
from $500 to $1,000 per person.
On Saturday, March 23, 2002, families of the heroes,
sponsors and guests will enjoy an eight-team (4 on 4
plus goalie) Hockey Tournament at Sky Rink at Chelsea
Piers. Teams of men and women from FDNY, NYPD, Port
Authority Police, celebrities and hockey All-Stars will
compete. The tournament is scheduled from 1:00-6:00pm.
Winners of each bracket will face off for the Heroes
Cup and one year's "bragging rights."
Heroes in Uniforms is a not-for-profit organization
established to benefit the families directly affected
by the WTC tragedy. Money raised from this event will
go directly to the union supervisors of listed organizations
for their respective funds, and will then be distributed
directly to the families."
NHL alumni will include Rod Gilbert, Ron Duguay, Bob
Nystrom, Clark Gillies, Phil Esposito, Pat Hickey, Glenn
Anderson, Eddie Mio, Pat LaFontaine, Gary Nylund and
more. Celebrities expected to participate are Denis
Leary, Jason Priestley, Alan Thicke, Joshua Jackson,
Tyler Stewart of the Bare Naked Ladies, Marcus Shenkenburg,
Kim Alexis, Dave Coulier, Chad Lowe, John McEnroe, Michael
Bacon, Paul Guilfoyle, Chad Smith, Vincent Young, Chris
Jericho, Chris Potter and more.
Heroes in Uniforms is presented by American Airlines, Chock full o'Nuts, Nextel,
Incentica, Microsoft, and Q104.3 WAXQ.
