NEW SCULPTURE CLASSES FOR KIDS AT
THE FIELD HOUSE AT CHELSEA PIERS

DISCOVER THE ARTIST IN YOUR CHILD

(New York, NY - August 19, 2002) - Beginning on September 10th the Field House at Chelsea Piers will offer children a new way to have fun: sculpture classes! This hands on course is designed to offer children, ages 6-12, the opportunity to learn new ways of seeing the physical world and to encourage them to express themselves as individuals through art. Sculpture classes will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:30pm - 4:30pm and 4:30pm - 5:30pm with internationally known sculptor Thom Janusz.

With his monumental stone sculptures displayed in parks, museums, public places, and private collections throughout the world, instructor Thom Janusz is eager to introduce art to the children at the Field House. "I believe it is very important to familiarize children with 3-D art very early. There is no other program that I know of in the city that offers these classes to children, that is why I am proud to be doing it," enthused Thom. He has structured the class to interest kids of all creativity levels. Classes will begin with drawing, modeling clay, and carving in plaster with the opportunity of working in stone or wood after basic instruction.

"We are thrilled to expand our offering of activities to include an artistic element for children," said Mollie Marcoux, General Manager of the Field House, who added that the Field House conceivably has everything a child could ask for, from dance studios to rock climbing and now sculpture. The Field House is home to a wide variety of activities for adults and children including New York's best-equipped gymnastics training center, baseball, basketball, martial arts, soccer, volleyball, and rock climbing.
