CHELSEA PIERS WELCOMES IRONMAN CHRIS BERGLAND TO STAFF

World Famous Ironman Joins Staff to Run Triathlon Programming

(New York, NY – February 19, 2003) – The Sports Center at Chelsea Piers is pleased to announce triathlete Christopher Bergland has joined the staff. Bergland, a charter member of the Sports Center, will serve as the program coordinator for the Chelsea Piers Triathlon Club (CPTC).

Bergland's impressive triathlon and ultra-triathlon career began in 1995. Chris has competed in over fifteen regular Ironman distance races, 4 Hawaii Ironman World Championships, and has won the last three consecutive Triple Ironman (7.2 mile swim/336 mile bike/78.6 mile run) Odyssey Challenges.

Bergland will oversee the monthly CPTC meetings, organize monthly endurance challenges, run seminars/clinics and invite in guest speakers with specific expertise in the field. Bergland will also create personalized triathlon programs for members and will be available for one-on-one training sessions.

“We are thrilled that Chris has come on board to run the triathlon program,” commented Bill Abramson, General Manager of the Sports Center. “Chris’s experience and success in triathlon and ultra triathlon training and racing is invaluable to members hoping to achieve the same success. He is a welcome addition to the staff.”
