Sports Center
at Chelsea Piers Creates the Ultimate Gym Challenge
for the Hardcore Athlete
Full Throttle Endurance Challenge
Launches
(New York, NY – April 8, 2003) – The
Sports Center at Chelsea Piers, New York’s ultimate
health club, has introduced the ultimate hardcore workout:
the Full Throttle Endurance Challenge. The class is
designed for the avid athlete who is looking to push
him or herself harder than ever before. The eight week
program, which consists of two hour sessions from 6am – 8am
twice a week, for a total of 32 hours, relies on combining
all the different activities the Sports Center offers
in one program, one workout. Classes include swimming,
running, biking, rock climbing, spinning, stair climbing,
calisthenics, sand drills, rope climbing, ab work,
strength training and more for a workout that ensures
complete exhaustion.
Led
by Scottt Berlinger, Ironman, triathlon marathon
competitor, the program is designed to not only push
an athlete physically but also mentally. It begins
with an extensive qualification process that ensures
a level of swimming, running and strength proficiency
for all interested in participating, only those who
pass are able to assume one of the twelve slots offered
for the duration of the eight weeks. “You can’t
estimate an athlete’s mental strength – that’s
the wild card in the class that makes it fun,” commented
Berlinger. “There will come a point during
every workout, when you have to ask yourself, do
I hit the showers or push it to the next level.”
The
program was born out of the demand that Berlinger
was seeing among his personal training client base. “Clients
were asking for more and more – they wanted
to try different things to see how far they could
push themselves,” said Berlinger. “The
Sports Center, with it’s size and wide variety
of sports, lent itself, unlike any other gym, to
a program like this.”
