THE GOLF CLUB
AT CHELSEA PIERS EXPANDS
New
Mezzanine features Two Full Swing Simulators,
Additional Video Analysis Super Station, and New Event Space named after
THE PLAYERS Championship
(New
York, NY – July 16, 2003) – The Golf
Club at Chelsea Piers today opened THE PLAYERS Championship
Room, named after the PGA TOUR’s own premier
event held every March at the Tournament Players
Club at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. The new
mezzanine, located on the top floor of the Golf Club,
features two Full Swing Simulators - the latest in
virtual technology - a brand-new Video Analysis Super
Station, and a new special events space with dramatic
Hudson River views. To mark the occasion, the Golf
Club will be offering exciting contests, demos and
promotions during a weeklong open house beginning
on July 16th.
The new Full Swing Simulators, which
are being introduced for the first time in the New
York market, allow customers to simulate a round
of golf on 36 different championship courses worldwide.
Tracking and graphic systems are so precise that
simulated balls bounce off trees, splash in water,
bury in sand and respond to terrain just as they
would on an outdoor course. The simulators also present
a valuable teaching tool for instructors, allowing
students who have never been on a golf course to
get the feel of playing a full game before attempting
an outdoor course.
Due to the continuing increase in the
popularity of golf, the Golf Club has also added
a brand-new Video Analysis Super Station. The Golf
Club already features three Super Stations that are
utilized by the Golf Academy for private lessons,
clinics, and schools. The teaching professionals
at the Golf Club have found Video Swing Analysis
to be an extremely popular tool and effective in
teaching golfers how to improve their swing.
THE PLAYERS Championship Room is the
latest addition of private event spaces at Chelsea
Piers. Overlooking the Hudson River and the green
of the driving range, it may be utilized for classes,
clinics and schools as well as for corporate events,
team-building, outings and birthday parties.
“The PGA TOUR is delighted to
be part of the Chelsea Piers golf experience by bringing
the excitement of one of the PGA TOUR’s greatest
events to New York to be showcased,” said Brian
Goin, Executive Director of THE PLAYERS Championship.
The space will reflect the action of THE PLAYERS
Championship through the artwork displayed. The PGA
TOUR will add on to the exhibits periodically, telling
the story of THE PLAYERS Championship thru the years.
“We are thrilled to announce
the grand opening of THE PLAYERS Championship Room,” commented
Greta Wagner, General Manager of the Golf Club at
Chelsea Piers. “The extra Super Station will
prove a valuable tool for the academy which has been
experiencing the same growth spurt that the game
has over the past several years. We are also thrilled
about the simulators. New Yorker’s love golf
and the simulators allow NYer’s to now enjoy
being out on the course year round. The new event
space has already proved very popular. The combination
of the artwork from the PGA TOUR and the beautiful
views make the space very unique.”
