Christine Tan Only Massage Therapist
Selected Nationwide to Go to Olympics
(New York, NY – June 30, 2004) – The United
States Olympic Committee selected Christine Tan, a massage
therapist at The Spa at Chelsea Piers, to accompany
the United States Olympic Team to Athens. Tan will spend
three weeks in Athens this August as the massage therapist
responsible for treating athletes before and after their
events and competitions. She is one of only two therapists
selected by the USOC to accompany the American delegation;
the other is a full-time staff massage therapist from
the USOC Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Tan, who has worked with such elite athletes as sprinter
Chryste Gains, New York Jets running back Curtis Martin,
and NBA player Chris Webber, says that massage therapy
is an integral part of any elite athlete’s training
regimen. Athletes may get as many as two massages a
day to help reduce muscle soreness and stiffness and
improve performance.
“I am thrilled about the opportunity to work
with the best athletes in the world. I’m hoping
to learn a lot at the Olympics that I can then bring
back to the Spa at Chelsea Piers,” commented Tan.
