(New York, NY – January 19, 2004) – The
Field House at Chelsea Piers proudly presents the
Chelsea Piers Scholarship Fund Benefit Performance on Saturday, January
24, 2004. Beginning at 3:00pm, the event features performances by the
Chelsea Piers competitive boys and girl’s gymnastics teams and
Chelsea Piers staff aerialists, dancers and acrobats. A reception and
silent auction follow the energizing performances. All proceeds will
benefit the Chelsea Piers Scholarship Fund.

gold medal gymnast Shannon Miller. Preceding the performance,
Shannon will conduct a gymnastics clinic and participate
in a question and answer period with Chelsea Piers
Scholarship Fund recipients.
The Chelsea Piers Scholarship Fund, founded in 1997,
is a not-for-profit fund established and administered
by an independent group of volunteers. The Fund is
committed to providing New York City children in need
with the opportunity to experience the enormous benefits
and enjoyment of participation in athletics. The Fund
believes that structured sports help children gain
self-confidence and self-esteem, develop social skills,
learn sportsmanship and teamwork, set and achieve
goals, and learn from positive role models. Last year,
the Chelsea Piers Scholarship Fund awarded over 100
scholarships to camp and other athletic programs.
The Chelsea Piers Scholarship Fund sponsors the participation
of children in summer sports camps, instructional
and team programs and other appropriate sports activities
at Chelsea Piers and throughout the city. To select
scholarship recipients, the Fund works with organizations
such as The Fresh Air Fund, Figure Skating in Harlem
and the Children’s Aid Society, and accepts
individual applications for specific programs.
