CHELSEA PIERS ANNOUNCES NEW SPORTS TRAINING FACILITY
CHELSEA PIERS BLUESTREAK
TRAINING FACILITY FIRST TO OFFER FAST TRAINING IN NEW YORK CITY
New
York, NY (February 22, 2007) - For the first time in ten years, Chelsea Piers announced that they will be opening a brand new sports facility, Chelsea Piers BlueStreak. Chelsea Piers BlueStreak, a strength training and athletic skill-development center dedicated to sport performance enhancement, will open in May 2007. With sport-specific training for dedicated youth and adult athletes in more than a dozen sports, the training center will be located in a new facility on Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers. This partnership with BlueStreak Sports Training will create the third BlueStreak location, joining the Stamford, Connecticut and Hauppauge, New York facilities.
Chelsea Piers BlueStreak was created to meet the training demands of both individual athletes and teams. Chelsea Piers BlueStreak is a licensed provider of the highly effective training protocols and programs developed by Frappier Acceleration Sports Training (FAST), the world's leading provider of advanced athletic performance enhancement training programs. The facility will feature patented FAST equipment, artificial ice, a turf field, Generation III Super Treadmills, an ice hockey treadmill, sport-specific cord technology, and Free Motion strength equipment.
Located on the eastern end of Pier 60, the 10,000 square-foot Chelsea Piers BlueStreak facility will be accessible from the Chelsea Piers Access Road. Additionally, Chelsea Piers BlueStreak will utilize the existing facilities in the 150,000 square-foot Sports Center health club, including a ¼-mile and 1/8-mile Mondo competition track, a sand volleyball pit, three hardwood basketball courts, and a 10,000 square-foot strength deck.
Chelsea Piers BlueStreak will cater to aspiring athletes starting at age 12 and continuing through elite and professional levels. Frappier programs are proven to make athletes stronger, faster and more agile. Athletes choose from several different training programs, including pre-season training camps, acceleration and skills programs, and ongoing training regimens. Chelsea Piers BlueStreak will also offer an invitation-only APEX program for the most elite level athletes. There will also be a specially designed program to cater to the dozens of elite young athletes that currently train at Chelsea Piers in figure skating and gymnastics. Adults too will be able to develop their skills, whether the goal is to improve a marathon time or increase agility for a competitive hockey league.
Training will be led by FAST Level III certified trainers. An advisory council that includes a sports medicine physician, a physical therapist, a trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), a nutritionist and a sports training program developer will provide support for exercise injury prevention, flexibility, recovery and nutrition programs.
"We will work with athletes as they move through their competitive careers. The FAST programs are both versatile and effective," noted Jarrod Jordan, program director of Chelsea Piers BlueStreak. "We can improve the jumping skills of a 12 year-old figure skater or the sprint speed of a 22 year-old NCAA striker. The programming will be appropriate for any athlete who wants to improve his or her game, match, meet or race performance."
"This is something that has been lacking in New York City for a long time," commented David Tewksbury, a founding partner of Chelsea Piers. "New York has some of the leading schools for children in visual arts, science and the performing arts. Most people don't think of New York City as a place that turns out great athletes. Chelsea Piers BlueStreak brings the best scientific, motivational and medical protocols available to athletes who are willing to work hard to improve their speed, skills and performance. Chelsea Piers, the premier sports complex in New York City, was the logical home for this sort of Olympic-quality training facility."
