THE SPORTS CENTER AT CHELSEA PIERS HOSTS DANCE BENEFIT
(New York, NY— October 6, 2009) – The Sports Center health club at Chelsea Piers announces the 4th Dance Aid, benefiting Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA) on October 12, 2009 from 7:00pm – 8:00pm in Studio A of the Sports Center. Dance Aid is an evening of dance choreographed and performed by local dance groups, including hip-hop, contemporary ballet, tap, jazz, chair dancing, singing and more.
This year Shea Sullivan, a renowned choreographer and dancer will be lending her skills to a routine. Also, two Top 54 American Idol contestants – Derik Lavers and Ashley Hollister – will be singing, adding a new element to the show.
“We are thrilled that this event has been able to both give professional and amateur dancers the opportunity to perform while raising money for great causes,” said John Boyd, Group Fitness Director at the Sports Center. “Dance is a wonderful artistic and athletic medium. Unless dancers are on a professional level, they rarely get the same opportunity as a runner or triathlete to showcase their skills. These events allow them to showcase their skills for a good cause.”
Past Dance Aid performances have benefited MillionTreesNYC and The Water Project. Over the past two years more than $4,000 has been raised for various causes.
All Dance Aid attendees will receive a free pass to the Sports Center’s Dance Week, held the week of October 12. The Sports Center offers more than 95 fitness classes weekly, including hip-hop, jazz, NIA and ballet dance.
All proceeds will benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA), a subset of Broadway Cares. For more information, please visit www.dradance.org. The minimum donation is $20 and contributions are accepted at the door or online at www.chelseapiers.com/sc/dance-aid/.
