The Sports Center at Manhattan’s Chelsea Piers offers high quality yoga instruction and a comprehensive program of yoga classes that is comparable to New York City’s best yoga studios, but with all the additional benefits of a major sports club and gym membership. Our yoga classes are taught by highly trained yoga instructors who specialize in an assortment of yoga disciplines. In the summer, yoga classes are often held on the sundeck overlooking the Hudson River that will transport you away from the stress of NYC life and into your own personal yoga retreat.

Yoga classes include:

Basic Yoga Instruction
Basic Yoga covers the fundamentals of yoga. Each week a grouping of asanas will be explored along with breathing techniques, basic philosophy and meditation. Great for the beginner student or a more advanced practitioner who wants to refine his/her practice.

Gentle Yoga Classes
Learn a series of nurturing physical postures based on yoga. These easy to follow yoga postures can help relieve back pain, headaches, insomnia and shortness of breath. No yoga experience is necessary, making Gentle Yoga the perfect beginner yoga class.

Power Yoga Workouts
Based on Ashtanga yoga, Power Yoga involves instructions in synchronizing breathing methods with a progressive series of postures that increase internal heat and detoxifies muscles/organs.

Vinyasa Yoga Instruction
Vinyasa yoga is a series of posture sequences arranged to flow together with breath, one after the next, in a moving meditation experience. Each yoga sequence is unique and can be modified by adding or subtracting postures.

Hatha Yoga Classes
Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical postures or "asanas" and controlled breathing or “pranayamas.” A typical Hatha yoga class will include breathing exercises, body postures and meditation. The advanced level is more vigorous, with instruction on more challenging variations, including jump backs and inversions.

Therapeutic Yoga
Therapeutic Yoga combines Hatha and Vinyasa styles while also utilizing a chair and props to offer extra support as you strengthen your poses, stamina and stability. Pregnant women are welcome to attend these yoga classes.
Private Yoga Instruction
Private yoga instruction is also available. Our highly trained yoga instructors will tailor a yoga training program to meet your specific needs. Whether you are a yoga beginner or looking to take your yoga skills to the next level, we will match you with a capable and qualified yoga teacher. Private yoga instruction is available for private, semi-private and group yoga classes.
Yoga Classes for Kids
On Sunday mornings during Family Day, the Sports Center offers Storytime Yoga 4 Kids. These simple yoga classes incorporate storytime with fun, healthy yoga postures and simple instructions.
