Now that I’ve enrolled my child in camp, how do I get to Chelsea Piers?
We offer a bus service that provides pick-up and drop-off at multiple locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Chelsea Piers is also easily accessible by car or public transportation. On-site parking is available with a free 20-minute grace period, and the M23 bus, which runs across 23rd street stopping at all the avenues, stops at the entrance to Chelsea Piers.
If my child will be taking the bus to camp, when should we expect to receive confirmation on the time and place of pick up and drop off?
You will receive a call from the camp office Wednesday or Thursday of the week before your child will be attending camp with information on pick-up and drop-off times, and your location, for each week your child is enrolled in camp.
When arriving on the first day, where should I check in and drop off my child?
Each camp has a designated check-in desk at the front of the facility (Sky Rink, the Field House, the Golf Club, the Sports Center, and the 300 New York bowling center), most commonly near the facility’s front desk, where counselors will be seated at a table with a list of campers to check in. The set-up will be the same in the afternoon during check-out.
Should my child bring a bag or backpack? If so, what should I pack?
It is not necessary to pack anything for camp. However, if you would like to pack a snack or water bottle, or extra clothing, please make sure the bag is clearly marked with you child’s name, and it will be stored safely by the camp’s staff.
If my child takes medication during the day, how will it be administered to him/her?
Chelsea Piers Summer Camps have athletic trainers who monitor the safety of the campers and who are in charge of dispensing medication to any child who has a note or instruction from the parents and the medication itself.
Will there be snack and drink breaks during the day?
Yes. There are water fountains easily available at each camp venue. The pre-school camps have a designated snack time. Most other camp programs have time during the day where the campers can purchase snacks from a snack machine. Please provide your child with some change or dollar bills, if you would like them to be able to purchase a snack or beverage from our vending machines.
We ask that your child always have sneakers and socks.
If your child is attending Ice Skating Camp, skating leotards, long sleeve t-shirts, pants or leggings and gloves are recommended.
If you child is attending Ice Hockey Camp, all the appropriate hockey gear and equipment is required. For more complete information, please refer to our Camp Handbook.
Are there any performance opportunities for the gymnasts or ice skaters?
Yes. Once every two weeks, the Gymnastics and Ice Skating camps will have the opportunity to showcase their newly acquired skills in a show. We encourage parents to attend these bi-weekly performances.
What is the counselor to camper ratio in the camp?
For ages 3-5 (pre-school), there is a 1-6 ratio.
For age 6, there is a 1-6 ratio.
For age 7, there is a 1-7 ratio.
For age 8, there is a 1-8 ratio.
For age 9, there is a 1-9 ratio.
For ages 10+, there is a 1-10 ratio.
Is there recreation time during the day for the campers to be involved in other activities?
Absolutely. Each camp day has a recreation period where the campers visit a different sports venue and are involved in a different sport. For example, Ice Skating Camp will play soccer one day, and then go rock-climbing the next day.
What are camp lunches like? Is there a vegetarian option?
Camp lunches, which are prepared by the catering partners of Chelsea Piers, are nutritional and satisfying, and always include a vegetarian option. Camp lunches include hamburgers, hot dogs, green beans, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, vegetable medley, sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, pizza, baked ziti, chicken fingers, salad, watermelon, bagels with cream cheese or butter, assorted yogurts and cookies. Campers can choose from water, milk and lemonade.
The camp day ends at 4pm. What if I am unable to pick my child up until later in the afternoon?
Chelsea Piers offers an After Care program. The programs runs from 4:30-6pm each day and provides campers with activities such as board games and videos. The cost for After Care is $115/week or pro-rated at $30/day. A late fee is charged if you pick your child up after 6pm.
