Class Descriptions
CP Skills Academy 5 - 10 years
The Chelsea Piers Soccer Club (CPSC) is extending its program by offering a unique training academy. This academy prepares young players for competitive travel team play and/or for advanced level competition. All training is based on the USSF player developmental guidelines and led by our own Director of Coaching and our USSF licensed staff. Each session consists of both training and scrimmages and short-sided games.
Playing Stars 5 - 14 years
Playing Stars is an after school youth soccer program emphasizing individual skill development as well as the fundamentals of sportsmanship and team tactics. Students learn the proper technique for passing, dribbling, shooting, heading and goal keeping. Full and half-field training games are played throughout the semester to provide players with match experience.
GOALKEEPING 9 - 12 years
The Goalkeeping class is set up for players who are committed to the position of goalkeeper full time. Within the CPSC philosophy, we believe that the goalkeeper position requires very specialized training. The program is set up to ensure competitive training and to make sure goalkeepers reach their full potential. Players will learn the fundamentals of the Goalkeeping position such as: Catching, throwing, rolling, falling, jumping, timing & communication. The semester will incorporate positioning, diving, agility & conditioning training, field preparation & set plays. The class will feature “game like” situations to improve players understanding of the position.
BALL MASTERY 7 - 10 years
This class deals with a player's ability to make the ball do exactly what they want it to. At Chelsea Piers Soccer Club, the emphasis from U9 to U14 is clearly placed on ball mastery. A minimum of 1 hour session is spent on ball work and technique. Therefore, to improve a player's individual ball skills and confidence, it is essential that each player receives maximum touches on the ball. Ball Mastery is closely linked with First Touch, Control and Dribbling.
