Curriculum

Each week, campers are placed in groups based on age and gender. An age and level-appropriate curriculum is developed for each group. A low camper/instructor ratio encourages personal attention and maximizes safety.

Girls utilize the balance beam, uneven bars, vault and floor while boys work on floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars, horizontal bar, still rings and vault. All gymnasts enjoy state-of-the-art tumble tracks, in-ground trampolines and deep foam pits. In addition to gymnastics, campers learn to rock climb on an artificial rock surface designed specifically for children. In our spacious dance studios, gymnasts develop grace, stamina and their own natural movement capabilities. Emphasis, particularly for younger campers, is placed on the fun of movement as well as the fundamentals that are the basis for success in all sports.

17-foot high, Super-fun Waterslide

On designated days, summer campers can cool off and enjoy the fun and excitement of our waterslide. Parents are notified when to send their child to camp with a bathing suit and towel.

Facilities

The Field House is home to New York City's largest competitive and recreational gymnastics training center. Facilities include two column-free competition spring floors, in-ground trampolines and multiple sets of equipment for each of the men's and women's Olympic events. Deep foam training pits, tumble tracks and overhead spotting rigs create the optimal safe learning environment. Campers receive dance training in our spacious dance studios.

Staff

Our dynamic staff of experienced professional instructors are hired not only for their knowledge of gymnastics, rock climbing and dance, but also for their ability to relate to and teach young children. Chelsea Piers provides nourishing, well-balanced, and generous lunches for all campers. The midday break is a time when campers relax and meet with friends. Camp lunches, which are prepared by the catering partners of Chelsea Piers, are nutritional and satisfying, and always include a vegetarian option. Camp lunches include hamburgers, hot dogs, green beans, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, vegetable medley, sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, pizza, baked ziti, chicken fingers, salad, watermelon, bagels with cream cheese or butter, assorted yogurts and cookies. Campers can choose from water and milk.

Our maximum ratio is 8 campers to 1 coach.
There is a daily recreation period where campers participate in different activities at our incredible sports venues. Some of these activities include field sports, ice skating and bowling. A schedule of each activity is emailed to parents the week before camp.
Gymnastics campers are primarily grouped by age and gender. Our coaching staff then evaluates each camper's skill level in order to provide appropriate challenges as the camp progresses.
While we cannot guarantee any group requests to place your camper with another, we do our best to accommodate. Grouping requests must be submitted via email to camps@chelseapiers.com at least one week prior to the start of camp. Age and gender will be taken into consideration.
While grouping campers with a specific staff member is very difficult due to many factors, we do our best to accommodate. Though each group has a primary coach and counselor, it is possible that campers may communicate and work with other staff members throughout camp.
