COVID-19 Updates

Update Posted: August 24, 2020

Dear Friends:

Thanks to the collective efforts of everyone who lives in New York City, and the seriousness of purpose in driving down infection rates of Covid-19 in our area, New York is a role model for the nation. Because of this progress, Chelsea Piers can continue its phased reopening with confidence, but also with systems in place to ensure we support the ongoing efforts of our state to keep our Covid-19 rates low and under control.

On August 15th New York State issued guidelines for indoor sports, which allows us to provide programming for most of our sports at the Field House, Sky Rink and the Golf Club. You can register now for a wide range of classes that start September 10th.

On August 17th, gyms and fitness centers were added by Governor Cuomo to the roster of Phase 4 businesses that could open as of August 24th; however, we are still awaiting confirmation on reopening dates from New York City Mayor de Blasio. Reopening guidelines include rigorous health and safety protocols, including wearing masks at all times and reduced capacities. Click here to learn more. We will update our community on a reopening date for our two New York City clubs as soon as we know more. UPDATE: August 28th – Chelsea Piers Fitness clubs in Chelsea and Brooklyn will open Wednesday, September 2nd!

A small team of essential workers at Chelsea Piers has been working tirelessly to prepare for the safe reopening of our businesses. Our golf driving range has been a welcome respite for the New York community this summer, with a reservation system that makes it easier to provide a socially-distanced golf experience. Our Summer Camp is still in session through September 4th, and while the program was much smaller than previous years, it was a huge morale booster to see the kids and their coaches – all wearing masks – have fun playing sports and enjoying long-awaited safe, socialization. Our CP Kids Childcare & Preschool is also open!

We even opened a new business during this time period – the Water Hazard Bar & Lounge – open now at the Golf Club for outdoor dining and drinks.

The core of what we are doing during the phased reopening of Chelsea Piers is our Safety-First Commitment. Our entire team is committed to reopening slowly, carefully and safely – it's our best chance to return to some sense of "normalcy" and welcoming back our valued community.

As always, we appreciate your patience and we work hard to safely reopen Chelsea Piers! Stay tuned for updates.

With Gratitude,

Chelsea Piers Management

Update Posted: July 27, 2020

Dear Friends:

Today we welcomed our first campers for a carefully designed program featuring a smaller number of camps with fewer campers in accordance with New York State's Interim Guidance on Childcare and Summer Camp programs, and New York City Department of Health mandates for safe operations. We have apx. 150 children participating in five different camps - Gymnastics, Sports Academy, Golf, Soccer and Ninja/Parkour - for the next six weeks. Learn more here.

On Friday, July 24th, the Water Hazard Bar & Lounge opened for outdoor dining. Located at the Golf Club at Chelsea Piers, we are operating under Restart NYC Guidelines. Our outdoor driving range has been operating since May 28th by reservation only — we encourage you to visit and see our Safety-First Commitment in action.

Looking forward to the fall, we have reviewed the mandates and recommendations in Reopening New York: Sports & Recreation Guidance, and hope to have our fall sports programs open for registration very soon.

As always, we appreciate your patience and we work hard to safely reopen the Chelsea Piers campus!

With Thanks,
Chelsea Piers Management

Update Posted: July 1, 2020

Dear Friends:

As you know, New York City finally entered Phase 1 of the New York Forward Reopening Plan on Monday, June 8th, and Phase 2 started Monday, June 22nd. New York City was given also given permission to open summer day camps. As a result, we will be able to offer Chelsea Piers Summer Sports Camp starting Monday, July 27th.

As a reminder, our outdoor golf driving range has been open since May 28th — we encourage you to visit and see our Safety-First Commitment in action.

Throughout the summer, many of our businesses will remain closed until we receive permission to open, including Chelsea Piers Fitness in Chelsea and Brooklyn, and our event spaces. Within the venues where summer camp is conducted, most additional programming will be paused until September. We will continue to update you as we approach new reopening dates, so please be sure to subscribe to our email newsletters and follow us on our social channels.

We are excited to finally see a path forward, and look forward to being together again soon!

With appreciation,
Chelsea Piers Management

Update Posted: June 3, 2020

Dear Friends:

We hope that you and yours are safe and healthy.

Last Friday, we finally received some promising news from Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio regarding the anticipated re-opening date for New York City. They indicated that they expect the New York City region to move into Phase 1 by June 8th, at which point the city will start the long road to recovery. Based on Governor’s New York Forward Reopening Plan, Chelsea Piers (a Phase 4 business) should be able to open at the earliest six weeks after NYC enters phase 1. We will continue to update you as we approach a reopening date. Please understand that these dates can change based on City and State regulations. We are awaiting word to see if Summer Camp can open on July 6, 2020.

Since the closure, we have been planning and developing a comprehensive reopening plan for each of our businesses. While we still anticipate more detailed guidelines and directives governing the opening of Phase 4 businesses in New York City, Chelsea Piers has developed its own “Safety-First Commitment,” which we encourage you to read. Here are some of the changes we will be implementing to provide everyone a clean, safe, and comfortable return to Chelsea Piers:

  • Health checks at the entrance to the facility, including temperature checks and a health declaration, for all staff and our community of members, customers, tenants and visitors
  • Social distancing protocols throughout the facility
  • Online registration for all programming
  • Limited capacity for program enrollment to support social distancing
  • Enhanced cleaning and hygiene protocols throughout the facility
  • All staff in approved PPE

As soon as we are provided the necessary guidelines for Phase 4, we will provide more detailed information on what to expect at each of our venues. Our team will continue to work diligently on our re-opening plans and will distribute relevant information in the coming weeks and days leading up to our reopening. We are excited to finally see progress for our hard-hit region, and a path forward. Thank you for your loyalty and patience throughout this difficult time. We are all looking forward to returning, with the understanding that it will be a “new normal.”

If you are interested in seeing these new protocols in action, please visit the Golf Club. We opened the outdoor golf driving range on May 28th, with a reservation-only system and strict social distancing and safety protocols in place for our visitors and our staff. Please note that you can use any account credits at the Golf Club. Click here to reserve.

Please stay safe and healthy - we can’t wait to welcome you all back to Chelsea Piers!

With appreciation,
Chelsea Piers Management

Update Posted: May 15, 2020

To our Chelsea Piers Community:

We hope this email finds you and your loved ones well and safe during these challenging times.

Since we opened, Chelsea Piers mission has been to support the health and well-being of our community with the highest standards in safety and cleanliness. The team has been working diligently on a variety of scenarios to open in a way that is safe for everyone during these new times. When we are closer to reopening, we will provide you with very clear guidance on our reopening plans, including our Safety-First Commitment and what to expect as a member of our community.

Today, Governor Cuomo announced that New York on PAUSE has been extended through May 28,2020. We are heartened by the news that five of the 10 regions in New York State have been approved to start opening, and that the New York City region is getting closer each day to meet the state's requirements for a phased reopening.

We do not anticipate being able to open until the end of June at the earliest, and are planning for both a phased reopening and capacity/enrollment limitations. As we learn more, we will be in touch. Please continue to subscribe to our email newsletters and follow us on our social media channels for further information.

Thank you for your continued patience. We look forward to welcoming you back to Chelsea Piers.

Best Regards,
Your Friends at Chelsea Piers

Update: Chelsea Piers Closing Extended through April 30 Posted: April 2, 2020

To our Chelsea Piers Community:

Since our last communication, the news regarding Covid-19 — and most particularly the immediate impact on New York City — has been evolving quickly. We anticipate that Governor Cuomo will soon announce an extension of the New York State "PAUSE" through April 30th at the earliest. Reducing the burden on our hospital systems is everyone's goal and most urgent priority. Thank you for doing your part by staying home.

Given the current state of affairs, we are extending our temporary closure date through April 30th. We hope that May 1st will bring us together again as we once again re-engage in the sports, fitness and communal activities that make life so special.

The leadership team at Chelsea Piers continues to work and plan for reopening, including the possibility of a phased reopening based on social distancing requirements that could last beyond May 1st.

Staying in Touch.

Update: Chelsea Piers Closing Extended Posted: March 26, 2020

To our Chelsea Piers Community:

We hope that as you read this you and your families remain safe and healthy. As you all know, on Sunday, March 23 at 8:00pm, Governor Cuomo put New York State on "PAUSE" at least until April 19th with the goal of slowing the spread of COVID-19 and reducing the burden on our healthcare system. It is critical that we all do our part to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

So, what does this mean for Chelsea Piers?
First, we're writing to let you know that we have extended our temporary closure of our sports and fitness facilities through Sunday, April 19. However, please know that we are working toward reopening Monday, April 20, which coincides with the anticipated reopening of the NYC public schools. We realize this is still a fluid situation and any decision we make will be impacted by city and state mandates, as well as our own determination of when it would be safe to welcome back our community of employees, members and all athletes, young and old, who make Chelsea Piers such a special place.

Updates.
Many of you have questions. We will continue to provide answers through updates to our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website. You can also email us at info@chelseapiers.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Staying in touch.
You should also have received an email on Monday: Finding Balance Amongst the Uncertainty. Remaining connected with you and our community is a high priority. Please also check our social media channels. We have a very talented group of sports and fitness professionals that will be sharing their expertise in this difficult time.

Rest assured, we will continue to send weekly updates to keep our community informed of any new developments. We are counting the days until we can reopen our doors and welcome you all back.

With appreciation,
Your Friends at Chelsea Piers

Update on Refund/Credit Policy Posted: March 13, 2020

In response to COVID-19 and based on recommendations of multiple public health officials, Chelsea Piers sports and fitness venues in both New York City and Stamford were temporarily closed effective Friday, March 13th.

These facilities will remain closed until Tuesday, March 31st, at which time the situation will be reevaluated. The health and safety of our staff, members and guests is our first priority. It is our view that suspending our operations temporarily is the socially responsible thing to do and in the best interests of overall community health.

As a result of closing our sports and fitness operations on Friday, March 13th, we are in the process of managing inquiries from some customers and members regarding refunds and/or credits. Chelsea Piers has decided to assess all credits/refunds after June 30th. This decision was not easy, but we had to consider the significant financial impacts this health crisis is having on our employees, our members & customers and our businesses.

Over the years we have dealt with other major events that presented unique and unprecedented challenges; we have always tried to do the right thing for our employees, members and customers in our final decisions. Seeing that this immediate business impact is one that we have never dealt with before, we ask our customers and members for patience and understanding while we take the necessary time to formulate a clear and concise plan of action.

Fitness Club members: Please click here to read the email sent today.

We trust that you understand the necessity of our action, given the current health and economic crisis.
Thank you,
Chelsea Piers Management

Important Notice: Temporary Closing of Chelsea Piers Posted: March 12, 2020

To Our Chelsea Piers Community,

Based on the ongoing spread of COVID-19 in New York City and Connecticut, and on the advice of public officials who are strongly urging social-distancing, we have made a decision to temporarily close the sports, fitness and recreation businesses at Chelsea Piers, Chelsea Piers Fitness, and Chelsea Piers Connecticut effective tonight at 12:001AM, March 13, 2020. The current closure announcement is through March 31, 2020.

We regret having to make this decision but believe that, given the circumstances, temporarily closing is in the best interest of our Chelsea Piers community and necessary to responsibly respond to the COVID-19 health crisis in our city and nation. We did not make this decision lightly and recognize the inconvenience it will cause our valued customers and members. However, our overarching concern is the health of our community.

Chelsea Piers is in uncharted waters; but we’re optimistic that the spirit that helped New Yorkers through 9/11 and Superstorm Sandy will serve us well as we collectively work to be part of the solution to this unique challenge.

Chelsea Piers will continue to monitor the situation and follow the recommendations of city, state and federal health professionals, with the hope of reopening as soon as possible. For updates regarding the closure, please visit our website, www.chelseapiers.com/updates.

Please understand that we are doing our best to respond to the many questions of our customers and members. We will post an FAQ section on our website as soon as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
