Why it matters

More than lessons. A clear path to water independence.

Swimming is one of the few skills a child learns that stays with them forever. Water independence is essential, it's lifesaving, and it opens doors—to sport, to recreation, to a lifetime of being comfortable in and around water.

Progress you can see. Pride they can carry.

Every Chelsea Piers swimmer earns their way forward through our badge system. Each level has five specific skills attached to it. As a swimmer masters each one, their instructor marks it off. When all five are complete, they advance — and they know exactly why. For parents, it's full transparency into where your child is and what comes next. For kids, each badge is something real: earned, not given.

Each session builds on the last.

Classes run in 12-week trimesters, each session and semester building on the last. At every stage, your child is placed in the level that matches exactly where they are right now. For younger swimmers, the goal is water independence—moving safely and confidently on their own. For older swimmers, it's the beginning of the sport: stroke technique, endurance, and a pathway toward competitive swimming for those who want to go further.
