Retirement Planning
- What it is: The 401(k) Retirement Plan is a savings plan that allows employees to dedicate a percentage of their pre-tax paycheck to a retirement account. Managed through Empower, employees select how much to contribute per paycheck, and this contribution is automatically deducted from their earnings and deposited into their 401(k) account.
- Employee Contribution: Through automatic pre-tax payroll deductions, employees may make deferral contributions between 1% and 99% of pre-tax earnings. Contributions are subject to annual dollar limits set by the IRS. Employees may change their deferral percentage at any time by logging into their online Empower 401(k) account. Changes typically take effect within two (2) pay periods after the change is submitted online.
- Company Matching Contributions: Chelsea Piers Fitness will make matching contributions in an amount equal to 100% of your compensation contributed to the Plan, but subject to a maximum of 5% of compensation, not to exceed $1,000 per calendar year.
- Vesting: An employee will become 100% fully vested with Chelsea Piers Fitness after three (3) years from their hire date. If an employee is a 401(k) participant and terminates employment before completing three (3) consecutive years of employment, they are not fully vested. However, if employees have completed three (3) years of service, they are fully vested at the time of termination, and all employer match contributions are theirs to keep.
- Who is eligible: Employees are eligible to participate after completing one (1) year, working at least 1,000 Hours of Service within the one (1) year. Employees must be at least twenty-one (21) years old to participate. Once an employee satisfies the eligibility requirements, they may participate in the Plan on the first day of the quarter following eligibility.
