Retirement Planning
- What it is: The Chelsea Piers 401(k) Retirement Plan is a savings plan that allows employees to dedicate a percentage of their paycheck to a retirement account. Chelsea Piers offers both Traditional (pre-tax) 401(k) and Roth (post-tax) 401(k). Managed through Fidelity Investments, employees select how much to contribute per paycheck, and this contribution is automatically deducted from their earnings and deposited into their 401(k) account.
- Employee Contribution: Through automatic pre-tax payroll deductions, employees may make deferral contributions between 1% and 60% of pre-tax earnings. Contributions are subject to annual dollar limits set by the IRS. Employees may change their deferral percentage at any time by logging into their online Fidelity 401(k) account. Changes typically take effect within two (2) pay periods after the change is submitted online.
- Company Matching Contributions: Chelsea Piers makes matching contributions in an amount equal to 100% of employees' compensation contributed to the Plan, but subject to a maximum of 8% of compensation, not to exceed $2,500 per calendar year.
- Vesting: An employee will become 100% fully vested with Chelsea Piers after three (3) years from their hire date. If an employee is a 401(k) participant and terminates employment before completing three (3) consecutive years of employment, they are not fully vested. However, if employees have completed three (3) years of service, they are fully vested at the time of termination, and all employer match contributions are theirs to keep.
- Who is eligible: Employees are eligible to participate after completing six (6) months of service, working a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week within the six (6) month period, with the projected number of hours over the current one (1) year period reaching a minimum of 1,000 hours of service. Employees must be at least twenty-one (21) years old to participate. Once an employee satisfies the eligibility requirements, they may participate in the Plan on the first day of the month following eligibility.
